South
Boston Rotary Club Celebrating 58 Years
The South Boston
Rotary Club was chartered in December 1953, as a member club
of Rotary International with 22 active members that
represented the various local businesses and community
organizations. The club was sponsored by the Danville
Rotary Club and has continued its service to the South Boston
area since that time.
Currently, the
club is celebrating 58 years of service with 27 active members
and 3 honorary members. All Rotary Clubs are
nonpolitical, nonreligious and operate under the motto
"Service Above Self". Rotary's main objective
is service - in the community, in the workplace, and
throughout the world. The South Boston club has
established a primary focus of its projects on education in
the local community and on the elimination of polio worldwide.
The club is also working with Rotary International on a
potential artesian well project in the Philippines.
